Former England captains Geoffrey Boycott and Andrew Strauss have been awarded knighthoods at Minister Theresa May’s resignation honours list.
Boycott, 78, has been captain on four occasions in 1978 set up of the injured Mike Brearley and scored 8,114 runs in 108 Tests for England in 1964 to 1982.
Strauss led England to the number one Exam standing 2 Ashes wins, as well as, in his 50 Tests.
The 42-year-old scored 7,037 runs in an average of 40.91 at 100 England Tests.
Using the bat, Boycott averaged 56,83 over the span of his career with and scored over 48,000 runs and 151 centuries.
After his retirement, Boycott has gone on to develop into a thriving broadcaster and is a part of the BBC’s cricket commentary team.
The Yorkshireman has been made to apologise after saying it would be more likely he would be knighted when he was to’black his face’.
Strauss combined the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) since England’s manager of cricket following his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2012.
He left the function last year to encourage his wife Ruth who was treated for terminal cancerand proceeded to launch a foundation in her name.
Former England coach Andy Flower, who had been in charge during Strauss’ period , paid tribute.
“I can’t think of a person more worthy of this honour,” Flower said.
“As a player he had been resilient and tough, as a priest he balanced a business hand and ethical compass with a compassion and empathy that supposed he was loved and respected in the dressing room by his own players and the staff”
ECB chief executive Tom Harrison explained:”Our heartfelt congratulations go to Sir Geoffrey Boycott – honoured for his long career and ardent dedication to the game.
“In May 2015, Andrew was invited to join with the ECB as director, England championships, to form the future plan of the men’s global teams – in part to enable an environment that would see England as dwell contenders for the World Cup in 2019, a goal they so thrillingly delivered just a few short months ago.
“It was with the same class and courage that he and his family set up the Ruth Strauss Foundation to raise money and consciousness only a couple months after losing Ruth to a rare kind of cancer.
“Apart from his accomplishments on and off the pitch, Andrew is widely considered to be an outstanding individual within our game and this fantastic accolade is going to be renowned throughout the cricketing world.”
